A finely carved and polychromed wooden sculpture of Devi Vasurimala, a guardian goddess worshipped in the Malabar region of Kerala for protection from illness and epidemics. She is an important deity in the Theyyam tradition of North Kerala. The figure stands in a powerful pose, holding a scythe, a symbol of protection, and a ritual vessel. Her elaborate headdress and ornaments reflect the rich artistic traditions of Kerala. The coloured but yet washed out antique finish accentuates the beauty.
